Consultancy firm WYG, which specialises in a range of sectors including waste and resources, has been acquired by the Californian engineering services firm Tetra Tech.
With its UK head office in Leeds, WYG employs 1,600 staff across 30 locations primarily in the UK and Europe.

As well as its work in waste and resources, the company provides consulting and engineering solutions for projects across planning, water and environment, transport, infrastructure, the built environment, urban design, surveying, asset management and international development.
Through its environmental planning division, which is headed by Adrian Lynham, WYG provides a range of services to local authorities and private companies on waste services, including permitting, facilities engineering, waste management and allied local authority street maintenance and waste planning.

Predominantly a player in the US market, Tetra Tech has over 400 offices worldwide including several locations in the UK – employing a total of 20,000 staff. Its services predominantly focus on the water, environment, infrastructure, resource management, energy, and international development sectors.
The company says that the expanded presence in the UK provides a “strong platform for growth in the UK and Europe”.
Commenting on the acquisition, Dan Batrack, Tetra Tech chairman and chief executive, said: “The addition of WYG advances our strategy to be the premier global high-end consulting, engineering, and program management firm.
“WYG’s expertise in infrastructure and program management, as well as water and environmental services, enables us to deliver innovative solutions to support the UK’s infrastructure needs. Together, we will provide an expanded scope of services to our customers and offer our combined staff even greater professional opportunities.”
Completion of the deal was announced yesterday (9 July) after which trading in WYG shares on the London Stock Exchange was suspended. Outstanding shares of WYG are now owned by Tetra Tech.
