The 2017 Waste World Cup – the waste industry’s premier football tournament – will be supporting the charity WasteAid UK, to help raise funds for waste services in developing countries.
Taking place at Northampton University on Friday 1 September, this year marks the 15th anniversary of the mixed-gender waste industry football tournament. Over 250 visitors from across the sector are expected to attend on the day.

Headline sponsors for the tournament include British Bins, Hadfield Wood Recyclers, Red Kite Waste, Smart Solutions and Spillard Safety Systems.
Reigning champions Bagnall & Morris will return to defend their crown with three time winners Valpak looking to restore their place on the perch.
Other teams taking part include WRAP, DHL, FCC Environment, Suez and Veolia.
The official group draw will be hosted on letsrecycle.com in late August.
Bins challenge
As well as the team competition, there will be individual challenges for players to take part in including the ‘British Bins Top Bin Challenge’.
Fundraising for WasteAid UK will also be taking place throughout the day including via the ‘WasteAid Crossbar Challenge’.
The charity, which was set up by waste industry professionals, has a vision to create a world with equal access to waste services for all. Its aim is to increase spending on waste management from 0.3% to 3% of all international aid.
Mike Webster, chief executive at WasteAid, said: “Yet again we are overwhelmed by the waste sector coming on-side to support better waste management for all. Two billion people don’t have any kind of waste service and we are facing a global crisis, with climate change and marine plastics among the symptoms of our lack of action.
“Our goal is to help people deliver low-cost and local waste management, wherever they are. Adopting a community-scale approach to waste management helps score the hat-trick of improved health, better jobs and a protected environment.”
