Warrington 10-year contract to be decided soon

By 02/03/2018News

The results of the bidding meeting held by Warrington borough council in October last year for the long-term contract for residual collections will be released later this month.

The current FCC contract has been extended for two years

This comes after the council triggered an extension of the current FCC Environmental contract, which was due to expire on February 1, by a further two years.

The prior information noticed was issued by the council in September, which explained that the council is looking to enter into a long-term contract for disposal/treatment services of its residual waste.

Included in the 10-year contract is the management and operation of a new £7.83 million transfer station to be built and owned by the council, as well as the disposal of the council’s residual waste and other waste streams.

The transfer station is set to be operational by February 2020.

Extension

In January, the council voted in favour of extending the current contract by two years as opposed to finding a temporary contractor until the new deal begins in 2020. The contract allows for an annual uplift of Retail Price Index (RPxi%) in accordance with the terms of the original agreement.

Meetings to discuss the extension had previously taken place in 2016, with both sides agreeing to extend in January. This avoided the potential scenario of having no waste disposal solution in place in for February.

The initial contract was procured in February 2013 for five years with the option to extend by a further two years by mutual consent through to January 2020. Currently approximately 50,000 tonnes of residual waste per annum is disposed of through the FCC contract.

A bidders’ meeting for the 2020 contract was held in October and attended by several contractors.
