Commenting on the new vehicles,  Chambers Group’s Finance Director Emma Chambers said: “The shovels have been introduced as part of our ongoing plant replacement programme, which ensures all our mobile plant is modern and meets latest safety standards.

“In addition, with recycling one of our fastest growth areas, it is vital we have the latest plant in operation.”

A combination of refuse trucks, specialist recycling vehicles, sweepers, tipper trucks and transit vans, the vehicles were delivered by contract hire and fleet management company, Specialist Fleet Services Ltd (SFS), ready for the February contract start. SFS has been Kettering council’s vehicle partner for over 15 years providing vehicles, maintenance and workshop management services, and their contract was recently extended for a further seven years.

Brendan Coleman, head of environmental care, Kettering borough council, said: “The vehicles look great in our new joint livery. SFS have been instrumental in helping us to select fit for purpose vehicles, equipped with the latest safety technology, to help us deliver the best possible service to residents across both Boroughs.”

Bob Sweetland, Managing Director, SFS: “We are delighted to be working with both Kettering and Corby borough councils. The new vehicles will help to deliver a more efficient, improved service.”

H&H invests in Volvo vehicles

H&H Waste Management Ltd, part of the Hoban Group, has taken delivery of a Volvo L180H loading shovel and an EW240E materials handler for its recently acquired waste handling facility located at Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.

The Volvo L180H loading shovel will service H&H’s Aylesbury site

Both machines are the first Volvos to be purchased by the company to handle a range of material from residual waste, through to wood, industrial waste, concrete and rubble.

The new 28-tonne loading shovel has been fitted with a heavy-duty 4.8m³ hi-tip bucket supplied by Ulrich attachments, together with 26.5R25 solid wheel and tyre assemblies to counter general wear working on the concrete pad.

Managing director, Michael Hoban, said: “We opted for the Volvo shovel as we consider it to be the best on the market in terms of productivity, reliability and ultimately, its residual value.

“The material handler accomplished all the activities required of it while on demonstration and the two machines complement each other well.”
