The East Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it attended the incident after receiving a call shortly after 10am.

Nottinghamshire Police also confirmed it had attended the scene after receiving reports of a ‘gas explosion’ and collapse of a tanker just before 10.15am.

‘Serious injury’

Dr Bob Winter, East Midlands Ambulance Service medical director said: “Due to the nature of the report, our Emergency Operations Centre immediately dispatched our Hazardous Area Response Team (paramedics specially trained to deal with major incidents), two ambulances and the Air Ambulance Helimed 54.”

Dr Winter also responded in his capacity as a critical care consultant.

The Ambulance Service said it treated two patients on scene – both had suffered ‘serious injury’ and were taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham by ambulance.

Incident

In a statement the Nottinghamshire Police said: “We don’t believe the incident is terrorism-related. Two men have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“We have secured the scene and are working with partners to establish the cause of what occurred.”

The incident is being investigated by Nottinghamshire Police and Nottinghamshire Fire.

When contacted by letsrecycle.com, a spokesperson for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said: “HSE was made aware of this incident and has attended the scene.

“At this early stage we’re making enquiries in co-ordination with the emergency services.”

Bio Dynamic

According to the company’s website, Bio Dynamic currently converts up to 50,000 cubic metres of food waste per annum, typically including date expired food from retail and hospitality businesses, as well as organic waste from food processing plants.

The East Midlands Biogas Centre converts the waste into energy and produces fertiliser products. The biogas is used to power the company’s Combined Heat & Power (CHP) units.

When contacted by letsrecycle.com Bio Dynamic was unavailable for comment.
