International paper recycling business Mark Lyndon Paper Enterprises UK, a major exporter of used cardboard to China, has appointed Tony Beech as commercial manager in the business’s buying team in Nottingham.
Mr Beech joins from UK-headquartered paper recycling and mill business DS Smith, where he held a number of posts and most recently was sourcing and managing the fibre supply for SCA Hygiene.
He started with Mark Lyndon at the beginning of July and joins a buying team of three alongside Lyn Wareing and Chris Petcher.
The buying team reports to managing director Colin Clarke who himself joined from DS Smith last year and was a colleague of Mr Beech (see letsrecycle.com story). The company buys in the UK on behalf of parent group Lee & Man which is based in China.

Mr Clarke said: “We are delighted to welcome Tony to Mark Lyndon – his reputation within the industry made the acquisition a very easy decision for us. With Lee & Man’s recent expansion into Vietnam it was the right time to increase our team as we look to continue our growth in the UK market.”
And Mr Clarke added: “The investment reaffirms our Chinese colleagues long term commitment to the UK market and the additional buyer on the ground will enable us to continue our focus on quality.”
Grass roots
Mr Beech explained that he started his career in the recycling industry in 2000 at BPB Recycling, “initially working on the sorting belt learning my trade from the grass roots. After 2 years I took an opportunity and progressed my way in to the weighbridge office and then took the decision to move in to the commercial department coordinating purchases and sales for BPB.”
He continued: “My first real break in to the commercial world came with my next venture working for Mayr-Melnhof in 2004 which was an invaluable experience and enabled me to travel, meet people, learn a variety of grades and establish myself within the industry as a buyer. In 2008 I joined Severnside Recycling, sales and purchasing department initially sourcing fibre for domestic mill supply, looking after sales, then at the latter end of my DS Smith career sourcing and managing fibre supply for SCA Hygiene.”
‘Excited’
Commenting on his new post, Mr Beech said: “Here and now, July 2017 is the beginning of a new chapter in my career as commercial manager for Mark Lyndon Enterprises. I am particularly excited about my new challenge, Mark Lyndon have a fantastic team of people, work ethic is second to none and they have provided me with a warm welcome in to their team which always helps!”
