Confidential shredding specialist Shred Station has won the 2021 Waste World Cup, beating another team from the same company 1-0 in a hard-fought final.
Organised by letsrecycle.com and now in its 19th year, the tournament welcomed 26 mixed-gender teams from across the waste and recycling sector to the event on 2 July which was this year held at Beaconsfield Rugby Club.

As in previous years, the football tournament began in a group format, which saw Shred Station’s winning team overcome Suez North, the Dunmow Group, ISS and Bakers Waste in Group A to enter the top tier of the knockout competition.
Shred Station’s second team qualified for the latter stages of the competition through Group E, ahead of GBN Services, Specialist Risk Group, Valpak, and Veolia.
Shred Station was the Cup’s holder, having won the tournament as a first-time entrant in 2019 (see letsrecycle.com story).
Winners
Other trophies up for grabs included the Vase, Bowl, Plate and Shield. Teams qualified for these competitions based on their standing in the group stage.
The Dunmow Group saw off Veolia Cannock 2-0 in their final to take home the Vase. The Bowl was won by GBN Services, who inched past Reconomy 1-0 to claim glory. Biffa comprehensively clinched the Plate with a 5-0 win over Bakers Waste, while RWM similarly eased past Suez South West 4-0 to claim the Shield.
The 2021 Waste World Cup also played host to the Letsrecycle Live Crossbar Challenge, which was won by Pete Davison from Reconomy. Mr Davison hit the bar twice in three attempts and took home £100.
Next year’s event will take place on 1 July at Beaconsfield Rugby Club. This year’s event was sponsored by Enva.
