Members of the Resource Association voted unanimously to dissolve the association at an Extraordinary General Meeting held this week (10 December).
And, the chief executive of the body Ray Georgeson was presented by members with the Resource Association’s traditional parting gift for retiring directors and supporters, an engraved tankard.

The vote to dissolve the association comes after the Association confirmed its intention to close at the end of this year in a statement released last month.
The statement read: “This decision has been taken in the context of changing priorities for its members which, at a time of economic uncertainty, have less demand for the cross-sectoral policy work that has characterised the role of the Association since its inception.”
Arrangements
Arrangements have been made by the association to hand over its End Destination of Recycling Charter to the packaging organisation, INCPEN.
The charter is a voluntary commitment made by members to publish an annual Register of End Destination of Recyclates, with the aim of improving transparency in the recycling supply chain and enhancing public confidence in recycling.
The association also agreed to hand over its ReQIP (Recycling Quality Information Point) database to environmental consultants Resource Futures, who have committed to further work on refreshing this resource next year.
Both INCPEN and Resource Futures are to make statements in the new year.
Transparency
Mr Georgeson said: “I am delighted that our colleagues from Resource Futures and INCPEN have stepped forward to take on two important elements of our past work.

“They have our full support in developing these projects further in the New Year – the importance of transparency in the end destination of recycling and clarity about the quality standards required by reprocessors to produce high-quality recycled products are recognised as vital elements in the future sustainability of UK recycling.”
Association
Resource Association members from across the waste sector included DS Smith Recycling, Ecosurety, the Kent Resource Partnership, Novelis Recycling, Palm Recycling and Smurfit Kappa.
Founded in 2011, the association was an advocacy body for the reprocessing and recycling industries.
It aimed to support the development of the recycling industry by providing a voice, forum and leadership.
Gifts

Members present at the December meeting also received a gift.
Each was presented with a tote bag made from the reuse of vinyl from several redundant exhibition display panels as an example of the association ‘closing the loop’.
