The Metropolitan police has confirmed that a ReFood lorry driver who was pronounced dead at the scene of a house collision in September 2020, died of “natural causes”.
The police said this followed a special post mortem examination which established that an inquest into his death was not needed.

The collision occurred on 14 September 2020 in Kidbrooke, south east London, when a ReFood food waste collection vehicle collided with two other cars before crashing into a house (see letsrecycle.com story).
The London Ambulance Service confirmed that five others were injured, three of whom were taken to hospital. Two were discharged at the scene.
The police confirmed one of those inured was an 11-year-old boy, who is now out of hospital and continuing to receive treatment for his injuries.
Specialist Urban Search and Rescue crews attended the scene and made efforts to free the lorry driver, before he was pronounced dead at the scene.
An appeal for witnesses and relevant footage was launched following the incident.

ReFood, which runs a network of anaerobic digestion facilities across the country, said that it has continued to work closely with the relevant authorities to support their investigations “during what has been a very difficult time”.
A spokesperson for ReFood commented: “Our heartfelt thoughts go out to all those affected by September’s tragic event. We send our condolences to the family of the driver, who died at the scene, and our best wishes are with those taken to hospital with injuries, who are now recovering at home.”
ReFood collects food waste from a number of companies and its customers include the NHS, local authorities, and the commercial sector.
