With 2016 now past its consequences will certainly live on with the waste and recycling sector facing up to the knock-on impact of the Brexit vote and other domestic and world developments.
In an interview with letsrecycle.com, David Palmer-Jones, chief executive of Suez Recycling and Recovery UK, talks about the “shock” of the Brexit vote and what its implications might be.
Mr Palmer-Jones also comments on the static recycling rate and suggests that the government is not keen on high recycling targets, rather preferring a 50% target.
He also highlights how the industry talks a lot about extended producer responsibility and how this would be a “great thing” if government were to embrace it. Plus, it also means that producers of products and packaging would be impacted.
And, for Suez a “big thing” in 2017 will be the development of its gasification facility in Surrey.
