The WEEE forum has made its former president, Philip Morton, its global ambassador, as it looks to share its knowledge across the globe.

Former Repic chief executive Dr Morton has been tasked with encouraging start-up e-waste take back organisations across the globe to join the WEEE Forum.

To encourage them to join, start-ups in countries with a GDP per person below the world’s average will pay a reduced fee for WEEE forum membership.

Numerous countries have adopted extended producer responsibility (EPR) legislation, encouraging producers to set up compliance schemes to manage e-waste. Currently only a fifth of WEEE is collected and properly treated.

Dr Morton was president and chairman of the WEEE Forum board from 2014 until 2016. Before this he was chief executive of REPIC Limited from 2004 until 2016 and member of the Supervisory Board of WEEE Europe GmbH from 2013 to 2016.

“I am a huge exponent of recovering and recycling plastic waste and I have always been,” said Mr Scott.

“Plastics are wrongly getting a lot of bad press because the world in general doesn’t know how to handle them for future uses.”

David Wilson, managing director of Vanden UK, said Mr Scott’s prior experience would help Vanden move forward.

He added: “He’s got depth of knowledge, experience and a great track record in exactly the sectors we want to penetrate.

“While he’s been used to selling raw material into the thermoforming and vacuum forming sectors, that’s exactly what we are looking for because he has great insight into the scrap they produce and the needs of those sectors.”
