Renewi reaches rebrand milestone
International waste-to-product company, Renewi plc, has accelerated its rebranding project, with 1,000 trucks and 100 sites rebranded.
The company said fitting the 1,000th truck and the 100th location with the new brand name marks a “significant milestone” in Renewi’s rebranding project, following the merger of Shanks and Van Gansewinkel almost a year ago.
The 1,000th truck was rebranded at Renewi’s Aalst site in Belgium and the 100th site was rebranded at Renewi’s Pijnacker site in the Netherlands.
All of Renewi’s 2,500 vehicles and 250 sites are being fitted with the new brand name or in the case of some fleet, are being replaced in accordance with a replacement programme. As part of the integration, Renewi reports to be also rolling-out an upgraded and more efficient truck fleet.
Geminor opens Norwegian logistics terminal
Leading waste to energy specialist, Geminor, has opened a new multimodal logistics terminal at the Port of Fredrikstad.
The company said the state-of-the-art facility, which will be used for the handling of bailed RDF from the UK, will play a vital role in its ongoing expansion across Norway.
The terminal will handle more than 120,000 tonnes of feedstock every year, including 20,000 from the nearby port of Brevik. Utilising the port’s “excellent” road connections, wast will be distributed to some of Norway’s leading waste recovery facilities, including including Bio-El, Energos Gasification Plant at Borregard and Sarpsborg Avfalls Energi AS, Geminor reports.
The logistics hub will also enable 5,000 tonnes of RDF to be stored at any one time.
Feedstock for the site will be drawn from four locations across the UK and be shipped across to Norway from Immingham, in partnership with DFDS logistics
St Helens announces Food Waste Challenge
St Helens council has teamed up with specialist recycling rewards scheme provider, Local Green Points, to launch a new Food Waste Challenge.
The challenge aims to help residents save money on their food shop by offering them advice and strategies to cut down on their food waste.
Residents who sign up to the challenge will receive online communications, focussing on 5 food waste themes identified by foo waste charity WRAP: storing food correctly, understanding date labels, portion control, planning meals and making use of leftovers. Residents will then be encouraged to make ‘pledges’ around how they plan to reduce their food waste and will earn ‘Green Points’ for sticking to them.
The Challenge will run alongside the council’s recycling reward scheme, St Helens Recycling Rewards, which rewards residents with ‘Green Points’ and prizes for recycling more and putting less materials in their brown bin.
Every month, the top performing recycler in each of the 16 council wards wins £50 to spend on vouchers for high street shops, local independent retailers or family days out. There are also three £25 vouchers allocated randomly each month.
Each year the communities with the most points per household are able to choose their favourite local charity to receive a share of £6,000.
ASH Group achieves health and safety certification
Waste and resources management company, ASH Group, has announced it has been awarded with the ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and OHSAS 18001:2007 certificates by World Certification Services, a UKAS accredited award body.
The certificates are for quality, environmental and health & safety standards, and will help to ensure the needs and expectations of the ASH Group’s customers are met, the company said.
The award is the latest in a series of accolades and accomplishments achieved by the ASH Group in the past twelve months, the company reports, with a Corporate Social Responsibility Award, acquisitions of further sites, and installation of two fully operational biomass boilers, amongst its notable achievements.

Smurfit Kappa has won a Nestlé award for an innovative collaboration to optimise the food giant’s packaging and supply chain.
Smurfit Kappa has been working to support Nestlé’s Virtuous Circle programme which drives year-on-year performance through innovation and sustainable business practices. The award relates to a joint collaboration between Smurfit Kappa and Nestlé involving the company’s cereal portfolio.
