VWS expands at Chesterfield plant
Weighing system manufacturer Vehicle Weighing Solutions (VWS) has announced that a production facility is being added to its Chesterfield plant.
The expansion will take place at its Chesterfield facility
The building will be an extension of the Chesterfield operations where VWS manufacture, install and service its vehicle weighing, bin weighing and overload protection systems.
The groundworks for the 14,000 sq ft facility have already commenced with the completion date set for August 2021.
Julian Glasspole, CEO, said: “The strategic decision to expand our operations in Chesterfield will position VWS to meet customer demand, particularly considering the large number of recent orders that we have received.”
Basildon to modernise waste services technology
Tisski will help modernise the council’s waste software
Basildon borough council has announced it is to partner with technology company Tisski to “modernise” its IT systems, including those associated with waste services.
The programme, based around Microsoft Dynamics 365 technology, will see a number of current systems migrated into a single, cloud-based digital platform, removing “time-consuming” processes for council employees and giving residents and businesses a “new customer experience”.
Scott Logan, chief executive, Basildon council said: “We have three clear principles for transforming the way we provide services across the borough. We aim to simplify, standardise and automate, giving greater value to the public.
“Part of this programme will be focused on our recently approved waste strategy and will help move away from paper-based processes, to a digital, environmentally friendly service.”
Westminster wins award for food waste trial
Veolia is the contractor for Westminster city council
Westminster city council has won ‘waste performance of the year’ at the Keep Britain Tidy Awards 2021, for its successful food waste recycling trial.
The council picked up the award at the online ceremony, seeing off competition from the city of London and Cheshire West and Chester council.
Westminster’s food waste recycling trial was launched in November 2019 in three areas of the city of Westminster, with its contractor Veolia.
Councillor Melvyn Caplan, deputy leader and cabinet member for city management, said: “Westminster’s food waste recycling trial has been a huge success and I am very pleased to see our efforts recognised at the Keep Britain Tidy Awards this year.”
FCC wins British safety council sword of honour
FCC Environment has been awarded the British Safety Council Sword of Honour 2020.
The company achieved an audited score of 94.97%
This comes after the waste management company achieved the highest rating in the 5 star audit of the British Safety council, with an audited score of 94.97%. Companies who achieve this rating are then asked to apply for the ‘Sword of Honour’.
Paul Stokes, head of safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) at FCC Environment said: “These results are testimony to the dedication of all within FCC Environment and the extraordinary efforts, time and trouble that we put ourselves through to achieve such results, especially through this challenging year.
“To end the most difficult of years being awarded the British Safety Council – Sword of Honour 2020 was a great achievement one that we should all be proud of”.
