Key sectors

The conference aims to bring together key sectors, including food waste processors, producers, waste management companies, local authorities and charities, to discuss the opportunities and challenges that food waste presents.

In the first session, David Newham, president of the World Biogas Association and managing director of BBIA, will look back over the past year in the organics sector. And, Mike Falconer Hall, organics programme manager at WRAP, will discuss development and changes for food waste recycling.

Paul Featherstone, procurement director at SugaRich and president of the European Former Foodstuff Processors Association will speak during session two about legal, safe and simple steps to reducing retailer food losses. This will be followed by Philip Verey, commercial director of Winnow Solutions, who will discuss using data to reduce food waste.

Initiatives

During session three, delegates will have the opportunity to hear from selected local authorities which have trialled new initiatives to increase food waste recycling. These include a communications campaign from Oxford city council and a trial of slim bins in Bristol.

Session four will focus on work undertaken by charities and social enterprises over the past year to tackle food waste and promote redistribution. Presenters include Olio and Bucks county council; Hubbub; and Company Shop.

There will be an opportunity for Q&A in each session to raise issues with speakers, and networking opportunities throughout the day.

The event is sponsored by manufacturer and supplier of activated carbons, and adsorption technology, CPL Activated Carbons & Biocoals.
