More time to enter the Awards for Excellence!

By 01/03/2018News

Forward-thinking councils and waste management companies with ideas and successes have an extra two weeks to put themselves forward for the letsrecycle.com Awards For Excellence 2018 with the ceremony taking place on 10 May.

The deadline for entries has been extended to March 14 – giving local authorities, businesses and individuals, and waste and recycling companies, extra time to submit an entry in a wide-ranging 16 categories.

This year there is the opportunity to gain recognition in one of five new categories: Wood Recycling Business of the Year; Plastics Recycling Business of the Year; Metals Recycling Business of the Year; Paper Recycling Business of the Year; and Organics Recycling Business of the Year.

Organised by letsrecycle.com, the annual celebration of hard work and innovation in the waste sector will take place at the five-star Landmark Hotel in the heart of London.

Civic amenity site/HWRC

Entries are still being sought for The Civic Amenity (CA) Site of the Year, for CA sites or Household Waste Recycling Centres, which have successful and effective day-to-day operations.

Entry is open to operators of all types of CA sites which can be described in many ways, including as household waste recycling centres.

Entrants will need to show how the sites have been used to increase recycling and composting and provide an enhanced service to users. Other factors could include planning, design, operational and cost aspects of the site.

These sites may be run by a contractor or a local authority and the site will have the principle functions of the traditional civic amenity site.

Also to be contested is The Best Local Authority Recycling Initiative, sponsored by Hadfield Wood Recyclers, for an initiative by a local authority which helps to promote greater recycling, composting, sustainability or waste management. In 2017, the winner was West Sussex Waste Partnership for its homes of multiple occupancy recycling improvement project.

Range of awards

Other awards up for grabs are Waste Management Initiative in the Retail, Commercial and Public Sector; Circular Economy Success (sponsored by European Recycling Platform); Best Use of Design and Technology in a Waste Management Facility (sponsored by the Environmental Services Association); Waste Transfer and Skip Hire Business of the Year (sponsored by Turmec); Collection Crew of the Year; Civic Amenity Site of the Year (sponsored by REPIC); The Best Community Recycling Initiative (sponsored by Smart Solutions); and the Zero Waste Platinum Award (sponsored by Helistrat & Wastecare).
