Man released under investigation over ‘large-scale’ waste dumping

By 20/08/2019News

Police inquiries into widespread illegal dumping of waste across the south east of England are continuing after an individual was released under investigation.

In May this year, the Environment Agency confirmed that a 44-year old man from Berkshire was arrested by Thames Valley Police in connection with “large-scale illegal waste tipping” across Surrey, west London, Buckinghamshire, Kent and Hampshire (see letsrecycle.com story).

The man was arrested following a series of incidents of waste having been dumped around southern England

The Agency said that the spate of incidents began in March and involved around 35 separate individual instances of waste being deposited unlawfully.

‘Released under investigation’

The 44-year-old man was bailed until the end of June, and his bail was then extended until this month, but the police have confirmed in a statement to letsrecycle.com this week that the individual has been ‘released under investigation’.

The arrest formed part of a wider investigation between the Environment Agency, the Metropolitan Police, Thames Valley and Surrey forces.

When announcing his arrest back in May, the Environment Agency also revealed that a tipper lorry and van believed to be involved in the illegal waste operation had been seized.
