Health and Safety Executive officials have been made aware of the death of a man, believed to be in his sixties, who died at an industrial unit owned by C&J Recycling in Birmingham.
West Midlands Police confirmed that the man died following a collision between two HGV lorries, and the Police understand one of the vehicles rolled into another, trapping the victim between the two. It was also confirmed that neither lorry was manned at the time.
A police spokesperson said: “The family of the man has been informed and our family liaison officers will be supporting them after receiving such shocking news.”
C&J Recycling are based in Bordesley Green
The West Midlands Ambulance Service added that it was called to an industrial premise on Bordesley Green Road, Birmingham, at 3.30pm yesterday afternoon (13 April). An ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Medical Emergency Response Incident Team attended.
Medical crews arrived to find a man who had suffered serious injuries and was in cardiac arrest. They commenced advanced life support at the scene “but sadly, despite best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead on scene”.
In its statement, the HSE said it is working alongside the police. A spokesperson said: “HSE is aware of the incident and is working alongside West Midlands Police to investigate.”
The company’s activities are understood to include aggregates recycling.

A spokesperson from C&J Recycling offered their sympathies to the family and said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this terrible time”.
Similar incident
The incident in Bordesley Green is the second fatality within the recycling sector in the current financial year, coming just one week after an incident at a textiles recycling facility in Erith, London (see letsrecycle.com story).
