Previously, LRS worked with compliance scheme MITIEpack.

As part of the contract, Ecosurety said it has committed to increase its PRN sourcing from UK recyclers. This will result in “tangible investments” in visible UK waste infrastructure and recycling education campaigns, the compliance scheme said.

Exporting

According to Ecosurety, in 2017 a large proportion of plastic packaging recycling evidence was generated from exporting waste.

Commenting on the appointment, Michelle Norman, external affairs and sustainability director at LRS, said: “We chose to spend our compliance money through Ecosurety because we were extremely impressed by their unwavering commitment to greater transparency inside the PRN system and the work the company has done to highlight the issue inside the waste industry. We – along with our consumers – care passionately about what happens to our plastic bottles, and we support increased collection, reuse and recycling strategies.”

“By working with brands holistically, we are able to help them maximise change for good, so that they can impose the least impact on the environment.”

James Piper, managing director at Ecosurety says: “Ecosurety does not look at simply what a company is recycling, but why it is doing so and what it hopes to achieve.

“By working with brands holistically, we are able to help them maximise change for good, so that they can impose the least impact on the environment, as well as provide vital funds for the waste and recycling industry and therefore help invest in UK recycling over the long-term.”

Ecosurey reports to have over 1,000 customers including The Co-operative Group, Innocent and Virgin Media. The Bristol-based packaging compliance scheme helps producers organise evidence to ensure they comply with packaging, WEEE, batteries and international regulations.
