An investigation is under way after an employee of a recycling company in Cornwall was fatally injured last week (16 November).
According to Devon and Cornwall Police, the 23-year old man was pronounced deceased at the scene – which was a facility operated by waste and recycling company H&A Recycling Ltd in Redruth.
In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police said emergency services were called to the scene at Cardrew Way, Redruth at around 4pm on Thursday 16 November, “with reports of a man trapped in the machinery.”
“A 23-year-old local man was declared deceased at the scene, his next of kin have been informed,” the police said.
In a statement, H&A said: “We are of course devastated that this accident has occurred at our Recycling Centre. At this very upsetting time we are fully co-operating with the police and the HSE who are rightly conducting their investigations. Our sincere condolences go to Dale’s family, friends and co-workers and we will offer our support to the immediate family for an unspecified period of time.”

The police confirmed that enquiries are under way to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been informed.

An HSE spokesperson added: “HSE is aware of the incident and is assisting the police who have primacy.”
According to the company’s website, H&A Recycling services around 2,660 customer sites each week from two operating centres in Cornwall. The company operates a materials recycling facility at the Cardrew Industrial Estate in Redruth.
Earlier this year, H&A Recycling announced it was expanding after receiving over £300,000 in funding from Lombard and Natwest (see letsrecycle.com story). The company acquired a number of wheeled bins and three new vehicles bringing its waste recycling collection fleet up to fifteen.
