Swindon-based waste business Hills Waste Solutions has consolidated its presence in the west of England with the acquisition of Able Waste Management Limited.
Based on the Hallen Estate in Avonmouth, Able Waste Management provides commercial dry recycling and food waste collections in the Bristol and Bath area.

The business, which also provides trade and residential skip hire services, has a fleet of 16 vehicles and employs 33 people.
Able Waste Management was established by Steve Hale and Martin Williams in 2001, who will remain with the business as depot manager and operations supervisor respectively.
Mr Hale said: “We are so pleased to be associated with Hills and are looking forward to working together on this new venture. This acquisition and the investment that Hills brings will take the business to another level and I am sure it will be a success.”

The acquisition sees family-owned Hills Waste Solutions add to its portfolio in the west of the country.
Hills’ portfolio of sites includes two landfills in Purton near Swindon, a materials recycling facility (MRF) in Calne, a transfer station at Amesbury and its 60,000 tonnes-per-year Northacre mechanical biological treatment (MBT) plant in Westbury.
Gary Mckinnon, divisional director at Hills, said: “This acquisition gives Hills a base in Bristol which has been identified as one of the top 20 growth areas in the country. It provides an excellent platform to expand waste collection services in line with Hills’ existing activities and opens up new opportunities to tender for business in the Bristol and Bath areas.”
Wiltshire
In January, Hills was awarded a contract to manage Wiltshire county council’s waste and recycling collection and disposal services for eight years – a deal estimated to be worth up to £190 million (see letsrecycle.com story). The contract will begin in August 2017.
