Veolia has strengthened its service provision in the east of England with the acquisition of the trade waste business of Glazewing which is based near King’s Lynn.
The sale sees the owners of Glazewing, brothers Jon and Simon Miles, keeping the metals recycling side of the business. They acquired Glazewing in 2008 (see letsrecycle.com story) having sold the Verdant waste business in 2007 to Greenstar UK.
Glazewing is based in East Anglia
The business itself made acquisitions including in 2011, Glazewing through the Miles brothers Valens Resources Group buying the Singh Group (see letsrecycle.com story).
Five sites
Prior to the sale Glazewing had five sites, in West Dereham, March, Wisbech, Great Yarmouth and King’s Lynn.
In the accounting period of 12 months to the year ending July 2017, the Valens Resources Group reported a turnover of almost £20 million with 45% of revenues coming from commercial waste and recycling work. It pointed to market pressures and the impact of two fires which had hit margins.
Region
For Veolia, the deal means the company will gain trade waste contracts for general business waste and other wastes such as waste animal feed. It gains a stronger foothold in the East Anglian region where in comparison to some other parts of the country it has not had as strong an offering. And, further expansion by Veolia is anticipated.
Glazewing’s work is also thought to have included some waste work for local authorities. And, the company is a member of the National Resources Consortium which arranges waste services across the UK.
