Future Industrial Services has taken delivery of 18 Volvo FH500 tractor units, as part of an investment of more than £1.5m.
The Volvo units, explained Future, which is a national waste and recovery business, will help it deliver services in its three main portfolio sectors – industrial services, hazardous waste and specialist recoveries.
The new additions to the fleet join a mixed marque totalling 177 vehicles. Supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials Ltd, the units feature Globetrotter cabs on 4100mm 6×2 pusher axle chassis, powered by D13K Euro 6 engines; allowing Future’s drivers to operate in lower emission zones.
Future’s staff will also “benefit from Volvo’s latest Media Package, which comes with a seven-inch touch screen, DAB radio, Bluetooth and MP3 sockets,” the company said.
Other important features include the straight six power plants drive I-Shift 12-speed automated manual transmission systems, with Long haul Fuel and Economy software programmes, that will be used to significantly reduce fuel consumption.
Growth
Speaking of the vehicle upgrade, David Lusher, chief executive at Future Industrial, said: “Having trialled a few different makes/models and taking into account our drivers feedback, we decided to place the Volvo FH order. Our business has grown through acquisition and we’ve used products from a few different truck manufacturers to boost our fleet numbers.”

Mr Lusher continued: “However, Volvo trucks predominate our new purchases. We’re very satisfied with the dealer network support levels and the vehicles have proved reliable in service, with minimal downtime noted.”
The vehicle roll-out is expected to be completed in Q1 2019.
Infrastructure
On the infrastructure front, Future explained that with growth in its hazardous waste operations, there has been further investment at several key locations. This includes: Berwick’s hazardous waste treatment plant and transfer station which has undergone significant expansion; Honiton’s hazardous waste transfer station expanding this year; and Future’s site in Kirkby, a seven-acre hazardous treatment and recovery facility, also seeing investment to expand its capabilities and operations.
Mr Lusher added: “We are pleased to report that we have just won several substantial contracts in both tankering and industrial services. Our Industrial Services provision continues to grow with the expansion of specialist services, including the cold cutting and hydro abrasion service, which complements the highly experienced tank cleaning/decommissioning service which has strategically placed depots covering the UK.”
