Four new categories unveiled for the Awards for Excellence

Four new categories have been announced for the prestigious 2018 Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management, to be hosted in London on May 10.

This year there is the opportunity to gain recognition in one of four new categories: Plastics Recycling Business of the Year; Metals Recycling Business of the Year; Paper Recycling Business of the Year; and Organics Recycling Business of the Year.

Organised by letsrecycle.com, the annual celebration of hard work and innovation in the waste sector will take place at the five-star Landmark Hotel in the heart of London.

Entry for the awards is now open to nominate a business, organisation or local authority in an extended 16 categories for excellent performance over the last 12 months. The deadline for entry is 1 March 2018.

Categories

Entrants are sought for 2018’s Local Authority Recycling Champion, sponsored by Biffa, which will be given to the council officer or councilor from a local authority which has achieved a high level of success in driving up household recycling rates. Last year’s winner was Dimitra Rappou, waste prevention officer at the North London Waste Authority (see letsrecycle.com story).

Also to be contested is The Best Local Authority Recycling Initiative, sponsored by Hadfield, for an initiative by a local authority which helps to promote greater recycling, composting, sustainability or waste management. In 2017, the winner was West Sussex Waste Partnership for its homes of multiple occupancy recycling improvement project.

Other awards up for grabs are Waste Management Initiative in the Retail, Commercial and Public Sector; Circular Economy Success (sponsored by European Recycling Platform); Best Use of Design and Technology in a Waste Management Facility (sponsored by the Environmental Services Association); Wood Recycling Business of the Year; The Recycling Business of the Year (sponsored by Ceris Burns International); Waste Transfer and Skip Hire Business of the Year (sponsored by Turmec); Collection Crew of the Year; Civic Amenity Site of the Year (sponsored by REPIC); The Best Community Recycling Initiative (sponsored by Smart Solutions); and the Zero Waste Platinum Award (sponsored by Helistrat & Wastecare).

Now in its 16th year, the Awards for Excellence continues to celebrate the best in UK waste and recycling.

The awards are judged by a panel of industry experts who bring a broad range of experience in the sector.
