Fatality at Erith textiles recycler

A post-mortem examination has commenced today following the death of a man at a textiles recycling facility in Erith on Friday (6 April).

The incident took place just before 10am at a site operated by Moosh Limited on the Europa trading estate, off Fraser Road. The man killed has been named on social media and locally as Ghanain citizen, Kwame Acheampong.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed they were called to the scene following reports of a man injured by a “falling object”. The Police said: “Despite the efforts of medical professionals the male, believed to be aged between 40 and 50, died at the scene.”

When contacted by letsrecycle.com, a spokesperson for Moosh said the company has no comment at present.

Ambulance

London Ambulance confirmed that an incident response officer, an ambulance crew, two single responders in cars and a hazardous area response team (HART) were sent to the scene.  London’s Air Ambulance was also dispatched by helicopter. “Sadly, a person died at the scene,” London Ambulance said.

The Police confirmed that the next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination will commence today, Tuesday, 10 April.

Investigation

“The death is being treated as unexplained,” the Police said. “Met police officers are investigating alongside the Health and Safety Executive.

“A 55-year-old man is helping police with their enquiries.”

When contacted by letsrecycle.com, a HSE spokesperson said: “HSE is aware of the incident and assisting the police with their enquiries.”

According to the company’s website, Moosh Limited is a family run textiles recycling firm. Moosh reports to be one of the UK’s largest textile recycling companies, processing around 300 tonnes of materials weekly.
