Veolia manufactures hand sanitiser to protect waste workers  

Veolia has announced it will manufacture hand sanitiser for key workers in the waste, energy and water sectors at its specialist laboratory facilities in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.

The sanitiser will be manufactured by Veolia’s team of chemists to ensure workers in these sectors have access among shortages in the pandemic.

Chief technology and innovation officer at Veolia, Richard Kirkman, said: “As a company with key workers keeping waste, energy and water infrastructure operational we are also focused on keeping our dedicated teams safe. The new sanitiser, produced in our own labs, will mean we can ensure they will have the supplies they need to continue their critical roles supporting hospitals, electricity generation, waste collection, food production and the water industry.”

Veolia said that the sanitiser is complaint with the World Health Organisation guidelines.

The team has so far produced 500 litres in two variants – one based on isopropanol and one based on ethanol.


Stay at home campaign reaches UK refuse lorries 

A new campaign will see refuse vehicles in the UK carry a ‘stay home, protect the NHS, save lives’ message down UK streets in attempt to reinforce government advice.

It is estimated that 200 refuse collection lorries will carry the visual campaign within the first week.

Bedfordshire council was one of the first to implement the campaign on their refuse lorries

Central Bedfordshire council was one of the first local authorise to pick up the artwork, which was developed by Roadvert CEO and Public Health England.

Roadvert Ceo Lawrene Craig said: “Every council operates refuse collection lorries, they are still in operation and on every street, every road, every avenue and every crescent across the country – so what better way to get the message out to keep families and neighbourhoods safe during these uncertain times?  It is the perfect  platform to reach our local communities and drive the message home.”

“Refuse vehicles are a powerful communication tool.  There is no other medium which goes down every street and every household in the same way.  I would therefore urge all councils across the UK to get involved with this campaign and help spread the crucial message to every home in their neighbourhood.”


Round the clock support offered for essential machines 

Finning’s customers, including Biffa and Veolia, will be able to get the parts they need

Machine manufacturer Finning UK and Ireland has announced it will provide round the clock support to essential machine operators during the Covid-19 pandemic.

To avoid failure and downtime of essential machines being used in critical services the company says they will continue to provide parts and support over the coming weeks and months.

The machine manufacture will provide parts on their online system and deliver them to site within 24 hours if ordered before 5.30pm.

There will be a drop box service available for parts to be delivered in a way that limits social interaction.


Disinfection tunnels can help people return to work safely 

New disinfection tunnels are now available to help decontaminate people and objects when they return to work following the coronavirus pandemic. 

The tunnels can be used for indoor or outdoor installation

The tunnels, which are suitable for installation in front of schools, hospitals, shopping centres, sport stadiums and more, provides effective decontamination with minimal consumption of electric and disinfectants.

And, they could even be installed inside waste facilities.

Manufactured by RCP-Systems, the tunnel can be installed indoors as well as outdoors and disinfects people are they walk through.

The tunnels have a capacity of 1,500 to 2000 people per hour.
