BIU Group to offer funds to air ambulance charity
Textile recycling organisation BIU Group has established a new fundraising partnership with the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance.

Yorkshire-based BIU Group signed the agreement last month, which covers the 25 donation banks across the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire region.
BIU Group was founded in 2005 and to date, the company has raised more than £8.6m for its charity partners through its 23 contracts with charities.
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance, for example, which has worked with BIU Group for over a decade, has around 250 donation banks that have helped generate more than £2.6 million for the charity.
Wendy Yarney, charity partnerships director for BIU Group, said: “We are delighted to have joined forces with another excellent cause in an enterprise governed by our highly regarded Charity Partnerships Agreement, that sets out a guaranteed rate from the sale of every kilo. “
She added: “This will not only enable us to provide a regular, sustainable stream of income for the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, it will prevent tonnes of recyclable textiles going to landfill.”
Mick George helps fundraise through Christmas trees
Cambridgeshire-based waste operator Mick George donated skips and vehicles for use as part of a Christmas tree recycling scheme, which helped raise £26,000 for a local hospice.
Around 100 volunteers helped with the scheme
Earlier this month, 100 volunteers gave up their time to help salvage 1,846 used Christmas trees from numerous postcode districts in Cambridgeshire.
These were then taken to the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity which supports people in Cambridgeshire who are living with a life-limiting illness.
From there, with help from Mick George, they were taken to be composted with all proceeds going to the charity.
Jon Stump, finance director at Mick George, commented: “The logistics of removing large items such as Christmas trees is never an easy one for most. This initiative will be hugely beneficial to many people and the fact that it has yet again raised important funds for a great cause is an extra benefit.”
Gaskells supports Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation
Liverpool-based Gaskells Waste has announced that it will be supporting the Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation this year by sponsoring its children’s Rugby League holiday camps.
The help from Gaskells enabled the rugby club to buy balls and shirts
Gaskells Waste has committed funding for the Foundation, which has enabled it to buy 100 rugby balls, and also T-shirts for all the children taking part in the camps.
The camps aim to “use sport to build confidence, learn communication and life skills and interact with players and other clubs”.
Denise Banks, commercial director at Gaskells, commented: “Gaskells is committed to supporting charities and community groups across all areas we operate in, so we’re delighted to be working with The Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation, which uses sport to give opportunities to many different groups across the area.”
Smart Solutions staff help NCPCC campaign
Staffs at the recruitment and workforce management company Smart Solutions, which works in the waste and recycling sectors, have helped raise £21,000 for the NSPCC’s work to end child abuse in the UK.
Staff at Smart Solutions took part in a range of fundraising events
Smart Solutions staff across the UK have spent the past 18 months organising a variety of fundraising activities for the charity, to eclipse the fundraising goal set by the company’s chief executive, Nathan Bowles.
Activities ranged from bake-off days and Easter bonnet competitions to half marathons and obstacle course challenges. 16 Smart Solutions employees completed Yorkshire’s ‘Three Peaks’ challenge – Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough – a 24-mile hike that includes a 5,200-foot ascent.
Mr Bowles said: “As a business, we are committed to playing our part in supporting charities that directly benefit the communities we work for and within. NSPCC absolutely fits that bill. It’s the UK’s leading children’s charity, fighting to end child abuse and helping children who have been abused or neglected to recover.”
