In the wake of reporting last week to the financial sector that its municipal performance had stabilised, waste management firm Biffa has released a summary of activities in the local authority sector for 2018.
And, the company’s commercial director, Pete Dickson, has welcomed the government’s plans to “reignite recycling” as laid out in the Resources and Waste Strategy.

Commenting on municipal activities, Biffa said it “is celebrating a host of new municipal contract wins and extensions, following a successful year of growth in 2018.”
Contracts over the past 12 months included a 10-year contract to manage waste, recycling and street cleansing services for Melton borough council, Leicestershire, and a five year contract for street cleansing in Forest of Dean.
Biffa was also awarded waste collection, street and beach cleansing contracts by Waverley borough council and the East Sussex Waste Partnership, covering Hastings, Rother and Wealden districts. The contracts are worth £40m over eight years and £80m over seven years respectively.
In addition to these new contract wins, Biffa said it had been granted extensions for Central Bedfordshire, Winchester, Portsmouth, South Staffordshire, and Tandridge councils.
