There are now just five days left to submit your entries for the 2020 Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management.
Taking place on 14 May at the Landmark Hotel in London, the long-running awards recognise local authorities, recycling companies and individuals that have gone the extra mile in their role.
This year there will be 15 categories following the introduction of the Health and safety initiative of the year award which sets out to recognise an initiative that has raised health and safety standards within a waste and recycling operation.
The Awards are judged by an expert panel including Steve Eminton, editor of letsrecycle.com, Jacob Hayler from the Environmental Services Association, Julia Turner from the Wood Recyclers’ Association, Jarno Stet from Nawdo, John Woodruff from Ricardo and Carole Taylor from LARAC.
Categories
Last year, more than 400 attendees gathered as Greg Wallace hosted the ceremony, with this edition of the awards shaping up to be one of the most memorable.
Five companies will be nominated as paper, plastics organics metals and wood recyclers of the year, with the best entry across the categories then crowned Recycling Business of the Year. Last year this was bagged by organics recycling business of the year Biogen.
Design
One of the standout categories this year is for the best use of design & tech. As the UK looks to meet recycling and landfill diversion targets, use of design and technology at recycling facilities has never been more important.
This could be for the efficient and modern use of equipment or the organisation of how the facility operates.
Also, the coveted civic amenity site of the year award has been particularly popular.
Entrants will need to show how the sites have been used to increase recycling and composting and provide an enhanced service to users. Other factors could include planning, design, operational and cost aspects of the site.
Further details of all the categories can be found here.
Entry to the awards is free and you may enter more than one category. To enter, submit a 500 word summary with supporting information here.
