Organics recycling firm, Severn Trent Green Power was named Recycling Business of the Year at the Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management 2021 held at London’s Landmark Hotel on Wednesday (21 July).
The Awards, run by letsrecycle.com, made their come back as an in-person event this year, and welcomed guests from all areas of the waste management sector.
Meltog Ltd triumphed with the award for Machinery and Equipment innovation of the year, a category new to this years’ awards.
Sector categories
Other winners in their sector categories were Bright Green Plastics for Plastics Recycling Business of the Year, Shreddal SDS Group for Paper Recycling Business of the Year, and Westminster Waste for Wood Recycling Business of the Year.
Severn Trent Green Power also clinched the prize for Organics Recycling Business of the year.
Host
Fifteen awards were presented at the event which was hosted by Channel 4 presenter Kate Quilton.
In her opening address before the awards, Mrs Quilton expressed gratitude for the work the waste management sector has done during the pandemic.
She also reflected on moments in her career that made her appreciate the work the industry does, such as when she visited countries that do no have “any form” of waste management and collection systems.
Mrs Quilton added that she was in awe of the work that attendees to the event undertake in their everyday life to carry out essential services.

In terms of waste facilities, Newport city council won the prize for its household waste recycling centre (HWRC) in the Civic Amenity site of the year category, while Veolia won Best Use of Design and Technology in a Waste Management Facility for its compost oversize processing.
And, city of Wakefield council won the collection crew of the year award, for its commitment to ensuring critical front line services during the pandemic.
