Ian Ireland named NWR marketing director
Cumbria-based waste management company North West Recycling (NWR) announced on 25 June that it had appointed Ian Ireland as marketing director.
Mr Ireland spent the last eight years at North West digital agency Fat Media, where he was client services director and agency lead. He has also worked as group account director at the Martin Tait Redheads advertising agency and as a marketing consultant at Newcastle-based brand agency Fat Frog.
Rick Allan, NWR’s managing director, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Ian on board. He brings with him a wealth of marketing experience and will play an important role in redefining our brand, digitising the business, and ensuring that we are communicating effectively to staff, customers, partners and the media.”
Founded in 1995 as Brampton Skip Hire, NWR employs more than 100 staff and operates from a 30-acre recycling facility near Carlisle. The company offers services from collection and skip hire to recycling and solid recovered fuel (SRF) production to domestic, trade and commercial customers.
Mr Ireland said: “I am excited to be working alongside Rick, general manager Dave Bamber and the rest of the team at North West Recycling as the business embarks on a major redevelopment of the plant and in the potential impact we can have on tackling climate change.”
Dhawal Shah appointed BIR division president
The Bureau of International Recycling’s (BIR) non-ferrous metals division has appointed Dhawal Shah as its new president.
Mr Shah is managing director of Metco Marketing India Pvt, a long-standing member of the Brussels-based international recycling federation and one of India’s leading indenting houses for secondary metals and alloys, ferrous/non-ferrous scraps and ferro-alloys.
Mr Shah has served on the BIR non-ferrous division’s board for 12 years, first as the board member representing India and then as senior vice-president for the last six years.
He is also vice-president of the Metal Recycling Association of India and serves on the Metals Committee of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry.
BIR president Tom Bird said: “Mr Shah’s vision and experience will be a great asset to BIR and its leadership, and I look forward to working with him to further develop BIR’s scope and international impact.”
Mr Bird thanked outgoing divisional president David Chiao for his “many years of outstanding services” within the non-ferrous metals division and the BIR executive committee.
Recolight appoints two to board
Lighting industry compliance scheme Recolight announced on 22 June it had appointed Andreas Adam of LEDVANC and Robert Sprott of Signify to its board of directors.
Recolight was established in 2005 by four lighting companies: Tungsram, Feilo Sylvania, LEDVANCE and Signify. The Recolight board has four non-executive directors representing each of its founding members.
Mr Adam, head of waste electrical and electronic equipment at LEDVANCE, takes over as chair of the board.
He said: “During my five years on the Recolight board I’ve seen the team grow and the services offered expand. I look forward to helping the company support its members in building a circular economy in the lighting sector.”
Mr Sprott, service manager at Signify, replaces Maurice Spee, who is retiring from Signify and the Recolight board after more than 20 years in the industry.
Mr Sprott said: “I join Recolight in exciting times. Scheme membership is increasing, and there is a great team of dedicated staff.”
Recolight’s other directors include Andrew Clark, financial controller at Feilo Sylvania UK, and David Nauth, commercial director at the Tungsram Group.
Uniper appoints corporate spokesperson
Uniper has announced that Georg Oppermann is to become the energy company’s corporate spokesperson and head of the external communication and sustainability team as of 1 July.
Mr Oppermann has worked at Uniper and its predecessor companies for more than 20 years, starting his career at PreussenElektra Handel (VEBA) in Hanover as a market and competition analyst.
Since the founding of Uniper in 2016, Mr Oppermann has worked for the Dusseldorf-based company as communication manager and spokesman.
In his new role, Mr Oppermann reports to head of corporate communication and governmental relations Fabienne Twelemann, who said: “I am delighted that we have been able to recruit Georg Oppermann, a very experienced communication expert from our own ranks, as company spokesman.
“Georg knows the energy markets as well as the media world and brings with him a large network. He also embodies Uniper and its values very credibly.
“These are important prerequisites for successfully shaping Uniper’s far-reaching transformation with the goal of climate-neutrality in Europe by 2035 and presenting it transparently to the public.”
