Simon Lowe joins Willshee’s as commercial manager
Burton-based Willshee’s Waste & Recycling has appointed Simon Lowe as commercial manager, as the company “gears up” for future growth.

Mr Lowe has over eight years’ experience in the recycling sector and has specialist knowledge of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) production.
Previously, he was responsible for securing recovery routes in the UK and in Europe as senior project manager at Geminor. He has also managed a materials recovery facility and household waste recycling centres for Veolia.
Dean Willshee, managing director of Willshee’s, commented: “Simon has excellent knowledge of the waste and utilities industries. He is skilled in environmental awareness, waste management, waste to energy process as well as operational and project management.”
Mr Lowe said: “There is great potential for Willshee’s to increase its market share given that so many businesses are putting increasing importance on minimising their environmental impact, and looking for a zero waste to landfill solution.”
Trigg-Knight succeeds Staniforth as PSF chair
The Packaging Schemes Forum (PSF) has confirmed the choice of Martin Trigg-Knight as its new chair.
Mr Trigg-Knight takes over the role from Robbie Staniforth
He takes over from Robbie Staniforth, head of innovation and policy at Ecosurety, who was involved in the founding of the PSF and its chair for the past three years.
Mr Trigg-Knight, head of packaging at Clarity Environmental, will take on the role as chair from 1 July 2021.
He He has worked on all aspects of compliance with experience working with both UK producers and reprocessors through Clarity’s in-house PRN trading division.
Mr Trigg-Knight said he is “delighted” to take on the role of PSF chair, at a “challenging time for the industry”, in particular with the planned introduction of a new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system.
He continued: “I believe packaging compliance schemes can be a valuable resource to assist producers and government with a smooth transition to EPR and have the capacity to work closely with the industry to make EPR the success we all want.
“I look forward to being able to share this expertise and continuing the great work by the forum, which has enabled such positive and open communication with government so far.”
Hills Group announces two additions to senior team
Waste management company the Hills Group has announced the appointment of Jason Bishop as UK regional manager and Chris Barnes, warehouse operations manager, as additions to their senior management team.
Chris Barnes will act as warehouse operations manager
Mr Bishop on brings with him 20 years of experience in the recycling industry, having previously worked within FAB Recycling and Synetiq.
He commented: “Hills have long been recognised as an early adopter and leader of Green Parts supply to the insurance industry. This is an exciting period of growth at Hills for which I am excited and proud to be a part of. Overseeing our regional distribution facilities presents an opportunity to deliver a market leading service to our clients and cement our position as the leader in Green Parts supply.”
Mr Barnes brings experience gained from operations and leadership roles, having previously worked at Yodel and Quickco where he managed multiple largescale warehousing and distribution channels.
He added: “I am delighted to join an organisation with the energy and passion that resides within the team here at Hills. The vision for the business is clear and I am looking forward to building upon the foundations already in place to deliver a standard of service which clearly distinguishes Hills from the rest of the market.”
NWR announces three new recruits
Cumbria-based waste management firm North West Recycling (NWR) has added three recruits to its transport, recycling, and engineering teams.
Lisa Freeman has “vast experience” in the transport sector
Matt Turner joined NWR in January 2021, as production manager. Mr Turner is a waste management specialist, responsible for overseeing the company’s high levels of operational performance across the entire recycling facility.
As transport manager, Lisa Freeman joins with “vast experience” in transport and logistics. Ms Freeman will aim to improve the vehicle tracking and monitoring systems and manage the entire fleet of vehicles and drivers.
And, Tony Briscoe starts at the company as maintenance manager, bringing with him 18 years within the engineering and maintenance team at Sellafield PLC. This role will see Mr Briscoe build and direct a night shift team of mechanical fitters and cleaning operatives.
Rick Allan, managing director and founder of NWR commented: ‘’We have seen tremendous growth over the last few years, with expansion into exciting new services and processes.
