Augean appoints group finance director

UK hazardous waste management business Augean has announced the appointment of Mark Fryer to its Board as group finance director.

Mr Fryer brings financial expertise across a range of both listed and private companies, having been group finance director of Dialight PLC from and previously of Manganese Bronze Holdings PLC.

For the past three years, Mr Fryer has been interim chief financial officer of two private equity-owned businesses: Bridon International Ltd and Nualight Limited.

As previously announced, Richard Laker will step down from the Board with effect from Mr Fryer’s appointment, in order to pursue a new opportunity (see letsrecycle.com story).

Environment Agency makes Board appointment

The Secretary of State for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has appointed Richard Macdonald as deputy chairman of the Environment Agency.

Mr Macdonald has been appointed until the end of his term as an Environment Agency (EA) Board member in May 2020.

Mr Macdonald has been a member of the Board since June 2013 and is a member of the Audit and Risk Assurance, Remuneration, and the Flood & Coastal Risk Management Committees. He is the lead Board member for Land Agriculture and is Area Board member for West Midlands.

Mr Macdonald was the chair of the Better Regulation Task Force. He has a farming background and was the director general of the National Farmers’ Union from 1996-2009.

The appointment was made by the Secretary of State on recommendation from the chair of the EA and in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments’ Code of Practice. The role of deputy chair carries a responsibility allowance of £4,199 per annum.

New operations director for Ecosurety

Resource efficiency and compliance specialist Ecosurety has appointed Paul Timmins to the role of operations director.

Paul Timmins

Mr Timmins, who has 13 years’ experience in director roles in the financial sector, will oversee IT, procurement and quality management systems at the company.

He will also join Ecosurety’s board to help the company deliver compliance solutions for its 1,000-plus members via resource reduction, reuse and recycling.

Mr Timmins worked for almost a decade at DAS UK group, serving as chief operating officer for over four years.  He has also been a director at Legal and General, and held senior positions at Britannic Money, BAA and FirstPlus Financial.

Mr Timmins said: “I enjoy working with high-performing and motivated teams, and I am looking forward to helping develop Ecosurety’s systems so that it can become the go-to compliance scheme for larger producers.”

James Piper, managing director at Ecosurety, said: “Ecosurety is doing all it can to exceed current standards of excellence, whether that is across our products or through our customer services. Paul’s heavyweight background as a director and operations expert will be of great assistance to us in 2017.”

Three new recruits at Frith RM and Credibly Green

Dr Julieanna Powell-Turner, Leanne Trow and Cath Edwards are joining sister companies Frith Resource Management and Credibly Green at their ‘eco hub’ in Bridgnorth, Shropshire.

Credibly Green provides environmental performance reports to customers throughout the UK and Frith Resource Management is a waste management consultancy.

Dr Julieanna Powell-Turner has been appointed sustainability director. An academic and researcher with over 16 years’ experience, her role will include accessing new markets for both Credibly Green and Frith RM and leading projects surrounding sustainable supply chains, the circular economy and resource management of raw materials.

Leanne Trow has been appointed as assistant environmental consultant. She will be supporting the marketing and delivery of Credibly Green reports and analysing data, modelling and conducting research on behalf Frith Resource Management projects.

Cath Edwards joins as sustainability consultant and will support the Credibly Green team in the promotion and delivery of their environmental reporting service.

Paul Frith, founder of both firms, said: “We welcome the three to our growing team – they bring a wealth of valuable experience from the environmental sector and will enable us to provide our specialist services to a wider range of clients in the Midlands, across the UK and worldwide.”
