Machinex announces UK business development manager
Recycling equipment firm, Machinex, has announced Ian Smith as its business development manager for the UK.
The company said in his new role Mr Smith will help to develop sorting and pre-processing solutions with new and existing customers, while providing the latest technologies on the market.
The new business development manager will “also ensure customers’ satisfaction while supporting them with any needs that arise”.
Mr Smith has over 30 years of business experience in the recycling, construction, and electrical engineering industries with a solid background in design and project management.
He joined PPS Recovery Systems in 1999 and has been heavily involved within the mixed dry recycling industry, primarily within the UK, ever since.
During this time, he worked alongside Machinex on projects within the UK.
In more recent years, Mr Smith has been engaged on specific projects as a technical consultant for Machinex and was involved in the Levenseat, Shanks Wakefield, and Swindon projects.
BHS names UK sales consultant
American equipment supplier, Bulk Handling Systems (BHS), has named Steve Almond to the position of sales consultant for the United Kingdom and Ireland.
According to BHS, Mr Almond has more than 25 years of sales management experience in the solid waste and recycling industry, including more than a decade of specialisation in optical sensor technology.
As a member of the BHS team, Mr Almond will specialise in Max-AI technology (see letsrecycle.com story), including the Max-AI AQC, and also represent the company’s other core separation solutions: BHS Tri-Disc screens and turnkey systems, Nihot air separators, and NRT optical sorters.
New chairman appointed by NWH Group
Scottish-based firm, NWH Group, has appointed John McCormick as its chairman.
Mr McCormick, who is also chairman of Coneworx and sits on the board of Enterprise Foods, has been involved with NWH Group since 2012 in a non-executive capacity.
A qualified BSc (Hons) Engineer with an MBA from Cranfield School of Management at Cranfield University, he previously held roles as chief executive of Enterprise Foods and chairman at Memex.
Thames21 recruits Martin Baggs and Peter Gerstrom to board
Martin Baggs, former CEO of Thames Water, and Peter Gerstrom, former CEO of Cory Environmental, have both joined the Board of environmental charity Thames21 to help deliver its new Five Year Plan.
Peter Gerstrom spent 14 years with waste and resources company, Cory Environmental, as deputy chairman and CEO, and he has chaired the Environmental Services Association.
At Cory, he oversaw the commissioning of the UK’s largest energy from waste project at Riverside, Bexley, for which waste inputs are delivered from transfer stations on the Thames.
Martin Baggs headed up Thames Water from 2009-2016 and during his time there, he also oversaw the development of the £4.2bn Thames Tideway Tunnel.
Previously, he was an executive director at Macquarie.
The Thames21 charity aims to: “rebuild the relationship between communities and their rivers; restoring river health and boosting wellbeing and community cohesion in the process”.
