35 under 35: Top three revealed

By 09/05/2018News

The top three entries into the sector’s first ‘35 under 35’ in waste management have been revealed.

Joe Allen, chief commercial officer at First Mile Ltd, Victoria Hutchin, associate waste and resource management consultant at consultants WYG, and Edward van Reenen, head of health & sustainability at Bywaters, have been crowned the top three professionals aged under 35 in the waste management and recycling industry for 2018.

Joe Allen from First Mile, Victoria Hutchin from WYG and Edward van Reenen from Bywaters have been named top three in the 35 under 35 awards programme

35 under 35 is an awards programme, organised by letsrecycle.com in partnership with Grundon, which identifies the ‘young guns’ in the sector who are striving for professional excellence, promoting industry innovation and giving back to their company, local authority or community.

Commenting on the awards, Beth Slow of letsrecycle.com said: “It’s been great to see such a high standard of entries for the first ever 35 under 35 awards programme for the recycling and waste management industry. For the judging panel, choosing the top three was a challenge with so many worthy candidates.

“Congratulations to everyone who made the list! The nominations show the enthusiasm and drive of the younger leaders and forward thinkers in the sector and we look forward to seeing their careers progress – whether it be in private companies, local authorities or working as consultants or innovators in the industry.”

Commenting on the programme, Neil Grundon, deputy chairman, Grundon, said: “I think it’s really important for us to recognise the achievements and talent of the younger cohort joining this industry.

“I think in the past we’ve been pretty slow at recognising young talent and hopefully the 35 under 35 scheme will develop into an excellent way of recognising that talent.

“It’s a competitive world so everything that gives them a leg up – all the better.”

The top three entrants will receive awards at this year’s Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management at the Landmark Hotel on May 10.
