By 14/07/2021News

A team of four from UK Container Maintenance (UKCM) has won the Masters of Waste 2021 golf tournament, held on 7 July, with a score of 101 points.

The prestigious tournament was organised by letsrecycle.com and held in association with Fireward and the Dunmow Group at the High Golf Course at Moor Park, Rickmansworth. Waste and recycling professionals from across the industry took part.

UKCM’s winning team, the second of two entered by the company, consisted of Mark Roberts, Neil Hylands, Steve Bumpass and Andrew Malone.

A team from St Album’s-based KP Waste including Liam Friel, Matt Boxer, Ken Golder and Charlie Preston came a close second with 100, followed by Specialist Risk Group with 99. Specialist Risk Group’s team included Joe Southwood, Jamie Kelly, Matthew Gallafant and Jamie George.

On the individual front, Mr Preston won with a score of 44. Mr Preston works for Reading-based firm Vehicle Weighing Solutions but represented KP Waste, given the close ties between the two companies.

Mr Boxer, also representing KP waste, finished second with 41 points and Allen Smith of Colchester-based CSH Environmental came third with 40 points.

Claiming the 2021 trophy meant UKCM picked up the prize for the first time in their history, wresting it from the hands of logistics firm and 2020 winners DHL (see letsrecycle.com story).

Competitions

The day also played host to a series of other competitions.

Alec Taylor, who works for Biffa but represented KP Waste, picked up the ‘Nearest the Pin’ award, sponsored by Grundon. Craig Lambourne of Conventa won the ‘Nearest the Pin in Two’ challenge, sponsored by Biffa.

Sam Youngs from Powerday won ‘Longest Drive’, sponsored by RVS, and David Kendle from BNP Paribas won ‘Straightest Drive’, sponsored by ASM.

Rob Mowat, director of letsrecycle.com, said: “It was another fantastic day and great to see familiar faces again, with people enjoying themselves despite what has been a challenging 18 months. Well done to all the teams who took part.

“Next year marks the 11th anniversary of the event, and we can’t wait to welcome you all back again.”
