Seventy firefighters battled a blaze involving around 100 tonnes of waste at the Townmead Road Re-use and Recycling Centre in Kew last night (20 June).
Ten fire engines also attended the scene of the fire, which is now said to be “under control”.

London Fire Brigade says its control office took 16 calls about the fire, the first of which it received at 8.43pm.
Though the fire was under control by 11.34pm, firefighters remained at the scene throughout the night to dampen down the area.
Residents in the area have been advised to continue to keep their windows and doors shut due to the smoke.
A London Fire Brigade investigation into the fire’s cause is now underway.
In a statement, London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters tackled a fire at a refuse transfer station where around 100 tonnes of waste was alight. There were no reports of any injuries.”
Fire crews from Richmond, Heston, Chiswick, Hammersmith. Wandsworth and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
Closure
In a statement issued today, the London borough of Richmond upon Thames said the Townmead Road Re-use and Recycling Centre would be closed until further notice.
The council said: “Thanks to the quick response of the London Fire Brigade the fire was contained. They will be investigating the cause.”
