President and board of EuRIC elected

The European Recycling Industries’ Confederation (EuRIC) has elected new leaders during its General Assembly held in Brussels on 16 November 2016.

Michael Schuy, a long-time board member of German steel scrap recycling confederation BDSV and chief executive of a steel scrap recycling company, will become the new president of EuRIC – the umbrella organisation for recycling industries in Europe.

In his tasks, Mr Schuy will be supported by two vice-presidents: Jean-Philippe Carpentier, president of the French Federation of Recycling Enterprises (FEDEREC), and Alicia Garcia-Franco, director general of the Spanish Federation of Recovery and Recycling (FER).

The president and vice-presidents of EuRIC ferrous, non-ferrous and paper recycling branches were also elected at the same occasion.

Cinzia Vezzosi, president of the metals division of the Italian Federation ASSOFERMET, becomes the new president of EFR, the ferrous metals branch. She will be supported by two vice-presidents: Robert Fell, chief executive of the British Metal Recyclers Association (BMRA), and Ion Olaeta Bolinaga, president of FER.

Susie Burrage, president of the BMRA, was appointed as the new president of EUROMETREC, EuRIC’s non-ferrous metals recycling and trading branch. She will be supported by Jeff D. Kimball from the Hungarian Waste Management Federation (HOSZ) and Patrick Kornberg, president of the non-ferrous metal recycling branch of FEDEREC.

Hans Van De Nes, treasurer of the Dutch recovered paper association FNOI, becomes the new president of ERPA. He will be supported by Thomas Braun, general manager of BVSE, the German Federal Association for Secondary Raw Materials and Waste Management, and by Pascal Gennevieve, president of the paper recycling branch of FEDEREC.

Ecosurety appoints board chair 

Resource efficiency specialist Ecosurety has appointed Rod Leefe to chair its board of directors.

Rod Leefe will be joining Ecosurety as board chair

Mr Leefe has over 20 years’ experience as an entrepreneur and strategist, chairing financial recruitment company Witan Jardine, where he also served as managing director for almost a decade. He also holds a number of non-executive roles and directorships of companies in the recruitment sector.

Mr Leefe will work with Ecosurety founder Steve Clark and other directors to develop the company’s business strategy and deliver smarter compliance solutions for its 1,000-plus members via resource reduction, reuse and recycling. Mr Clark will remain on the board, and will be heavily involved in the company’s overall direction.

Mr Leefe said: “Ecosurety is a young, ambitious company, with a hugely-talented team. I am looking forward to helping shape its future direction, and enable the company to achieve its ambition to become the go-to compliance scheme for larger producers.”

UKWSL welcomes supply chain manager

Brokerage firm UKWSL has announced the expansion of its senior management team with the appointment of Mark Goodchild as supply chain manager.

Mark Goodchild is UKWSL’s new supply chain manager

Mr Goodchild has over 30 years’ experience in the waste and recycling sector holding a number of senior management positions, most recently with Biffa Waste Services.

In his role as supply chain manager Mr Goodchild will be responsible for continuing to improve the relationships between UKWSL and its suppliers.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Goodchild said: “I am very much looking forward to the new challenges that working with UKWSL will bring. The team have been very welcoming and it is great to work in such a dynamic, positive and productive environment”

Max Kanda, director of corporate affairs at UKWSL, said: “The appointment of Mark is a clear demonstration of our commitment to supporting the rapid growth of the business with highly skilled and experienced people.  The strong relationships that we form with our supply chain are critical to the outstanding level of services we strive to deliver to our customers.”

Augean in directorate change

Specialist waste management business Augean has announced that group finance director, Richard Laker, is leaving the Group in order to pursue a new opportunity.

The board has initiated a recruitment process to identify and appoint a suitable replacement.

In line with the appropriate notice period in his contract, Richard will remain with Augean during this time to effect an orderly transition. A further update will be provided in due course.

Jim Meredith, chairman of Augean, commented: “The Board would like to thank Richard for his significant contribution to the Group during his time as Finance Director.

“Richard will continue in his role while a suitable replacement is sought and, whilst we are saddened to see him leave, we wish him well for the next stage of his career.”
