Suez recycling and recovery UK has agreed a 15 month extension to its dry mixed recycling contract with Angus council.
The waste from Angus will be sent to the Altens East MRF near Aberdeen, operated by Suez
The £1.1 million extension will see Suez continue to process 11,000 tonnes of the council’s recycling per year until the end of June 2022.
The waste management company has processed Angus council’s dry mixed recycling since 2019 at its Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) at Altens East, Aberdeen.
SUEZ’s regional manager, Richard Hinchcliffe said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Angus Council. This contract extension reflects the hard work that both Suez and Angus council’s operations teams have displayed since our partnership began in 2019.”
Contract wins
It follows a flurry of contract wins for the company in Scotland, with two treatment contracts having been announced with Aberdeenshire and the Highland councils in November last year (see letsrecycle.com story).
Suez also has existing contracts with Aberdeen Council and Perth and Kinross Council.
Altens East
The Altens East MRF opened in 2017 and is a £27m joint facility between Suez and Aberdeen city council.
The facility is capable of processing 20 tonnes of mixed recycling an hour, including glass, cardboard, newspaper, plastics, and metals.
According to Suez, the facility diverts 71,000 tonnes of Aberdeen’s waste from landfill every year.
