The London Waste and Recycling Board (LWARB) has changed its name to ReLondon as part of efforts to “simplify its branding”.
The board explained that partners and collaborators did not feel that the name LWARB communicated what it does, and that its brands and programmes were “confusing and unclear”.
For this reason, the board decided to “simplify its branding” and in the process “clarify what it is, what it believes and what its mission is”.
‘New mission’
ReLondon said that its new mission is make London a “global leader” in sustainable ways to “live, work and prosper”.
It said it will do this by “revolutionising” London’s relationship with “stuff” and help London waste less and reuse, repair and recycle more.
As ReLondon, we will be leading a revolution in our relationship with stuff by helping London waste less & reuse, repair, share & recycle more. We look forward to working with you under our new name to transform how we create, consume & dispose of stuff https://t.co/q19qHZaqrz pic.twitter.com/a5U5ZzP5lr

Climate
In the statement, the board added that 2021 will be a “hugely important” year for climate action, which is why it decided “not to wait” to change its name.
ReLondon explained: “We need a clear, compelling platform to amplify the message that consumption-based emissions and circular economy are a vital part of the fight to keep global heating to 1.5°C.
“Our delivery plan for this year is currently being revisited to assess the impact of the pandemic on our priorities and targets, but we are still fundamentally here to meet our statutory objectives to reduce waste and increase recycling in London. We will also continue to focus on five key areas of consumption: food, fashion, plastics, built environment, electricals.”
The board concluded that if individuals have a working relationship with one of its programmes, such as Resource London, Circular London or Advance London, they should note that all three of these will also be operating under the name ReLondon from 8th March.
