The EPA says she has more than 20 years’ experience in areas including emergency preparedness, environmental surveillance, radiation monitoring, citizen science, radon and air quality.

An EPA spokesperson said: “The EPA is pleased to welcome Dr Ciara McMahon on to the EPA board.”

The appointment of a director to the EPA board by the government follows a recommendation made by an independent selection committee.

Dr McMahon joins Laura Burke, director general of the EPA, and fellow directors Gerard O’ Leary, Dr Micheál Lehane, Dr Eimear Cotter and Dr Tom Ryan on the board.

Sackers appoints new chairman

Mr Gray said: “Sackers is a sound business which is evident from riding Covid and many recessions.

“I’m honoured to be asked to be chairman to help them with the next steps of growth. There’s lots of opportunities which I’m keen to help with and add new knowledge to the board.”

Mr Gray is also currently non-executive director of ferry company Red Funnel Ltd and strategic advisor to Turia Port Management Investment (Holdings).

Sackers’ joint MD David Dodds said: “Chris is highly experienced in logistics and shipping and will bring us his industry knowledge to give us a competitive edge.

“He also brings huge amounts of business acumen and this is evident in some of the large corporations he has, and still does, work for.

“We are very pleased to have Chris advise and strengthen the Sackers leadership team and his assistance to ‘navigate the ship’ towards our growth plans.”

Bioenergy Infrastructure Group appoints CFO

The Bioenergy Infrastructure Group (BIG), which operates biomass and energy from waste (EfW) plants, has appointed a new chief financial officer.

Elliot Renton was previously CFO of Vista Global, a Dubai-based business aviation group. Prior to that, he was also CFO for London Luton airport for 11 years and held senior positions at furniture retailer MFI and multinational drinks producer Diageo.

At BIG he has succeeded Ben Wright, who had been the company’s CFO since January 2018.

Mr Renton said: “I am delighted to join the BIG at this important moment in its growth and development.

“The bioenergy industry is clearly poised for strong long-term growth and BIG will be a significant driver of that expansion, building on the progress it has made to date in consolidating and evolving the biomass and energy-from-waste sectors.

“BIG is already a major player in this growing market and I’m very much looking forward to supporting the next phase in the company’s development.”
