Grundon Waste Management will open its Banbury waste and recycling facility to the public and local businesses at weekends, starting this Saturday, 13 June.
Strict social distancing measures will be adhered to at all times
The move is to “help meet the increased demand seen at household waste and recycling centres”, so that people can get rid of built-up waste without enduring long queues.
The site usually consists of a waste transfer building and a MRF with storage and processing facilities for recovered material and refuse derived fuel.
Cars will be charged £25 per visit, while trailers will be charged £70, and vans (up to 3.5 tonnes) will be charged £100.
The move comes after Grundon also opened its Grange Lane materials recycling facility in Beenham to the public over May bank holiday. The site opened as a ‘pay to tip’ facility, donating £5 of each charge to NHS charities (see letsrecycle.com story)
Local facilities
Neil Grundon, deputy chairman, said: “We know that householders, tradespeople and commercial businesses have struggled to get rid of their waste as local recycling facilities have been closed during lockdown.

“Even though many of them are now open again, there are long queues and, in some cases, booking systems to negotiate. We’re offering a simple, safe and cost-effective solution to the problem which allows them to dump their rubbish quickly and enjoy the rest of their weekends.”
It will be the first time that the facility, situation on Thorpe Way Industrial Estate, has been open to the public since it began operating in Autumn 2018 (see letsrecycle.com story)
The site will be open for an initial four week period, every Saturday (8am-4pm) and Sunday (8am – 12pm).
Cars, trailers and vans will be allowed access to the site, and social distancing measures will be in place at all times. Grundon has said they will accept general waste, mixed recycling, plastics, cardboard, metal, wood, garden waste and inert waste.
