The Grist Group has acquired the Somerset waste management company Moores Recycling Limited.
The takeover comes through the acquisition of Moores Recycling’s parent company Moores Holding Ltd, by Grist.
Moores Recycling, which is based in Frome, was set up in 1962 and collects and recycles waste packaging including plastic and cardboard from commercial clients. The business has clients including DHL, Coca Cola, Bernard Matthews, Argos and Marks and Spencer.
Activities carried out by Moores at the Frome site include granulation and compounding of plastic films and other grades including PET, PP and PVC. The company also collects cardboard bales, polystyrene briquettes and hard plastics.
Grist
Grist Group also owns the Devizes-based waste firm Grist Environmental Ltd – which specialises in the collection of construction and demolition wastes, as well as commercial waste and automotive services. The company was established in 1972.
Staff from Moores Recycling will transfer across to the new ownership in a ‘business as usual’ scenario – as guaranteed under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations. The company is also expected to be incorporated under the Grist brand.
Jason Moore, managing director of Moore (Holdings) Limited, said: “I am confident that Moores Recycling will be in the best position to grow and develop in the hands of its new owners.
“I would like to thank the staff at Moores Recycling for their dedication over the years, without which we could not have built on the success of the company in the way that we did.”
Processing
Speaking to letsrecycle.com, Nigel Grist managing director of Grist Environmental, said: “This is a step further in what we do in processing material. Moores has got markets all over the world which is something we were looking for.”
The acquisition was advised by commercial law firm Thrings, with the financial aspects of the deal managed by Bishop Fleming Accountants.
Sarah Ellis, associate solicitor at Thrings, said: “The global context of the rising and falling cost of materials keeps pushing the refuse and recycling sectors to think differently about how they develop. Moore’s Recycling showed leadership by pushing forward innovative approaches to refuse management, for example, its decision to run both recycling and pipe manufacturing operations in close proximity.”
