SUEZ crews thank NHS staff
Waste and recycling collection crews employed by Suez in the Kirk Sandall Depot showed their appreciation for NHS staff at Doncaster Royal Infirmary with a drive-past of a fleet of collection trucks last week (30 April).
The drive-past took place during the weekly national applause for NHS staff and key workers at 8pm.
SUEZ driver Paul Bowland from Kirk Sandall Depot said: “We have been so grateful for all the thank you messages that residents have given us. It has really boosted us whilst we’ve been working hard to keep waste and recycling collections running.
“We just wanted to find a way for us to thank NHS staff and other key workers who are doing such a good job in really difficult times. We thought a fleet drive-past the hospital to show our appreciation and thanks would be a good thing to do.”
Waste collectors honoured in Top Trumps
A new edition of Top Trumps honouring key and essential workers will hit shops today (4 May).
The game applauds essential workers, including waste collectors, who have carried on working during the pandemic.
One of the four scoring sections in the new game is ‘unsung heroes’, in which bin collectors score 9 out of 10.
Claire Simon from Top Trump said: “Every single front-line key worker is, of course, a heroine and hero and would each score 10 out of 10 by any reckoning if we have devised a Hero category. From our research, which has been intensively conducted over the six weeks, partners of key workers came out top in this section.”
Veolia launches COVID-19 disinfection service
Veolia has launched a new covid-19 disinfection service designed to ensure compliant treatment for businesses that need disinfection after lockdown and prior to reopening.
The service will be delivered by the company’s emergency response teams.
Veolia said that the service sees the safe disposal of any potentially contaminated waste streams through clinical waste treatment facilities.
Richard Kirkman, Veolia’s head of Covid-19 response said: ”With the pandemic posing a significant risk to health, Veolia is supporting the national effort to defeat this virus. Our new services are based on our years of expertise dealing with hazardous environments, and can now give the reassurance and peace of mind that the virus will be eradicated.
“This in turn will help businesses and other organisations ensure the safety of their employees and customers, as they seek to return to normal business operations.”
Enva donates 24,000 hand sanitiser to care sector
Enva has donated 24,000 (250ml) bottles of hand sanitiser to care homes in Ireland.
The company said it reengineered its supply chain in order to provide additional supplies of 100% Isopropyl alcohol used to produce hand sanitiser.
Commenting on the donation, Enva’s managing director, Simon Dick, said: “The shortage of hand sanitiser has been widely reported in recent weeks. When members of our team recognised that we may be able to help using our existing supply chain, the company moved quickly to make this a reality.
“We continue to encourage our employees to identify ways we can support the battle against Covid-19 and are committed to supporting these initiatives wherever possible.”
