Enva begins fleet upgrade
Recycling and resource recovery business Enva has pledged to invest £12 million in approximately 100 vehicles for its fleet across the next two years.

The company’s fleet upgrade plan has begun with the acquisition of 17 DAF artic units, to be distributed across Enva’s four dry waste depots in Scotland.
Enva’s managing director, Barry Coughlan, said: “This investment in new fleet will enable us to provide this service in the most sustainable way possible, whilst ensuring we continue to deliver the expected levels of service.”
The new vehicles follow 30 others that have been purchased during the last 18 months.
They boast 360-degree camera systems and anti-roll-away systems which stop the vehicle moving if the driver exits the cab without engaging the parking brake.
Mr Coughlan said: “Over the next 18 months we will see another 80 new vehicles introduced into the fleet across the UK, incorporating more than 17 unique specifications.
“We are also trialling the latest developments in electric vehicles to realise additional commercial and environmental benefits in the future.”
Grundon customers win Green Apple Awards
Ten of waste management company Grundon’s customers have been presented with Green Apple Awards, which are awarded by The Green Organisation in recognition of environmental best practice.

Grundon customers took home three golds, four silvers and three bronzes across various categories.
Steve Hill, head of sales at Grundon, said: “We are absolutely thrilled at the success achieved by all the winners; their awards are richly deserved and reflect the hard work and commitment they have put into making their waste management strategies work.”
The full list of winning Grundon customers features Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, London North West Healthcare NHS Trust, Forest Green Rovers Football Club, The Grove retreat in Hertfordshire, West One Shopping Centre in Oxford Street, London, Southside Shopping Centre in Wandsworth, Brighton Marina leisure complex, Bicester-based BRITA UK and the offices at 20 Gresham Street in London.
Grundon itself won a bronze award in the Services Industries category for its work towards carbon reduction.
Hilton launches soap recycling programme
The Hilton hotel chain is launching a soap recycling programme as it aims to recycle 100% of its leftover soap bars.

It is hoped the programme will divert 64 tons of waste from landfill every year and create more than 700,000 new bars to distribute to those in need.
Simon Vincent, president of Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Hilton, said: “The expansion of our soap recycling programme not only helps us to reach our environmental goals, but also contributes towards tackling the significant hygiene epidemic which sees around 3,600 children under five die every day due to lack of access to clean soap and water.”
The programme will be run in collaboration with Clean the World, an organisation that recycles hotel soap and amenities.
From 2020, Clean the World’s Amsterdam facility will recycle soap from Hilton’s hotels in the UK and 17 countries across continental Europe.
Shawn Seipler, founder and chief executive officer of Clean the World, said: “We are thrilled to expand our existing partnership to Hilton’s hotels across Europe, as it will enable us to take another important step forward in our fight against hygiene-related illnesses.”
Veolia in charity donation to encourage WEEE recycling
Veolia has committed to donating £5 charity for every tonne of small domestic appliances taken to the 12 recycling centres in Nottinghamshire throughout December and January.

The promise has been made in a bid to encourage residents to recycle waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).
The money raised will go to the Motor Neurone Disease Association, a charity selected by Kevin Rostance, chairman of the county council.
Cllr Rostance said: “It would be fantastic if everyone could pledge to have a greener Christmas and reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible from their household waste.
“This will help us to recycle more for Nottinghamshire and raise money for this very worthwhile cause.”
If the total reaches 500 tonnes by the end of January 2020, Veolia has pledged to donate an additional £500 bonus to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Richard Allen, contract logistics manager at Veolia, said: “In the run up to and after Christmas, we tend to look at purchasing new electrical items for our homes or as gifts for friends and family, so now is a great time for us all to recycle the unloved and unwanted items, which will raise money for this fantastic charity.”
