Dougie Sutherland, a former director of the outsourcing and construction firm Interserve, will replace Nicholas Pollard as the chief executive of Cory Riverside Energy.
Cory has moved swiftly to announce the appointment, having announced the departure of Mr Pollard, who has been the company’s chief executive since 2015, late last week.

Mr Sutherland, who had served as managing director of Interserve’s developments division, left the company in February 2019, having worked there since 2006.
Interserve was bought out by lenders in a pre-pack administration deal in March. The company had encountered problems within its energy from waste division, which led to its decision to pull out of that segment of the market in 2016 (see letsrecycle.com story).
The company has been involved in the development of several EfW facilities including Viridor’s delayed Glasgow Recycling and Renewable Energy Centre, and the Sinfin Resource Recovery Solutions plant in Derbyshire, which has been described as ‘significantly behind plan’.
Board
Mr Pollard and Mr Sutherland briefly served on the Interserve board together, with the Cory executive having been appointed as an independent non-executive director to the company in June 2018.
Cory, which operates the giant EfW plant at Belvedere, was acquired in June 2018 by a consortium of long-term infrastructure investors, comprising Dalmore Capital, Fiera Infrastructure, Semperian PPP Investment Partners and Swiss Life Asset Managers.
Mr Sutherland will join the company from 23 April, with his priority likely to be advancing the company’s plans to develop a second energy from waste plant at Belvedere (see letsrecycle.com story).
