Waste container manufacturer, Coral Products (Mouldings) Ltd, has announced a successful trial of its 23-litre ‘fox-proof’ food waste caddy.
The containers have been put to the test by a number of trial participants, including small rodents in a countryside location and a fox – fondly labelled Felix – to test the container’s robustness against pests.
The Haydock-based company said its plastic recycling food waste containers have been tested over the last year and have received “positive feedback” on the trials.
This has included “most importantly how four-legged creatures have not been able to gain access to the food waste,” Coral Products says.
Containers were trialed in a variety of locations, including stored outside next to a chicken coop; located in a small town with regular collections; and situated in a rural location.
“Locking in the smell of waste food, vegetables, bones and meat is key, this product achieves this,” one user commented.
“After using the 23-litre fox proof caddy for a period of two months, with a variety of items stored in it (food waste for five weeks and pellets for the further weeks) no rat had managed to get into the 23 litre food waste bin,” said another.

Coral Products (Mouldings) Ltd, based in Haydock, St Helens, said its focus is to create a circular economy efficient business.
According to the company, the opening of its recycling plant in March (see letsrecycle.com story), has enabled the business to upcycle waste plastic products and use them in the new 23-litre fox proof caddies. This is one way the company says it has made a change to support the environment, councils and local authorities.
