Countrystyle Recycling has confirmed the sale of its domestic builders skip business to East Kent Recycling Limited, with effect from 1 March 2019.
It is understood that the sale encompasses a number of trucks, skips and a non-retained customer list.

According to Countrystyle, the decision to sell has been driven by the forthcoming expiry of the company’s lease of its skip depot and waste transfer station at Strood, Rochester, Kent.
Countrystyle said it will continue to provide skip services to its retained and any new commercial/industrial customers who receive a number of separate waste management services. It will also continue to supply skips for source segregated wood and waste plasterboard to the construction industry.
EKRL
East Kent Recycling (EKRL) supplies domestic and builders’ skips and recycling of material collected via its fleet of 19 skip lorries. EKRL is undergoing an expansion programme from its operating bases in Faversham and Aylesham, Kent. The family-run firm operates across central, south and east Kent, including the Medway Towns.
Countrystyle said it has similarly focused the expansion of its business on the treatment of various waste streams via “significant multi-million pound investments” in its processing and recycling facilities for plasterboard, wood and dry mixed recyclables at its main operational site at Ridham, near Sittingbourne, Kent.
The flagship facility at Ridham, Sittingbourne, provides specialist recycling for paper/cardboard, plasterboard, wood, organics waste, and manufactures refuse derived fuel.

Commenting on the deal, Chris Howard, Countrystyle’s managing director, said: “The expiry of the lease at our Strood site allowed the Countrystyle Board to assess whether we wanted to remain in the domestic skip market and the answer was no. We have had a long term working relationship with EKRL and we felt most comfortable doing a deal with them.

“The strategic logic of this transaction is further supported by the long term supply arrangements that EKRL is entering into with Countrystyle for the recycling and recovery of waste that EKRL collects via its skip fleet to take place at Countrystyle’s treatment facilities. In short, we are still receiving the key feedstocks at our Ridham site that were previously collected on our own wheels.”
Ky Campion, managing director of East Kent Recycling Limited said: “This deal places East Kent Recycling as the largest skip operator in Kent and fits with our own expansion plans. We know what we are good at and this deal also enabled us to guarantee the offtake of our key segregated waste streams to a company that we are very comfortable working with.”
Countrystyle, based in Kent, is a waste recycling business operating across the South East.
