Is your business leading the charge towards a circular economy? Do you work for a council that excels at recycling and waste management?
If the answer to either of those questions is yes, do not miss your opportunity to be recognised as a champion of sustainability at letsrecycle.com’s 2019 Awards for Excellence.
Entries are being accepted across a total of 16 categories covering both the public and private sectors, ranging from the ever-popular Collection Crew of the Year Award to the prestigious Recycling Business of the Year Award (sponsored by Ceris Burns International), seen as the gold standard for companies in the sector.
Organised by letsrecycle.com, the annual celebration of distinction and innovation in the waste sector returns to the five-star Landmark Hotel in central London on 9 May.
Now in its 17th year, the Awards for Excellence continues to celebrate the best in UK waste and recycling. The awards are judged by a panel of industry experts who bring a broad range of experience in the sector. 2018 winners included Recycling Lives, DS Smith and Devon county council (see letsrecycle.com story). The deadline to enter is 14 March.
This is likely to be the Awards’ highest profile year to date, in what is a pivotal time for efforts to tackle waste and improve recycling in the UK and beyond.
After last year’s success, the five sector categories are back: Wood Recycling Business of the Year (sponsored by Fireward); Plastics Recycling Business of the Year; Metals Recycling Business of the Year (sponsored by Liebherr); Paper Recycling Business of the Year (sponsored by Winfibre); and Organics Recycling Business of the Year.
Other categories include Civic Amenity (CA) Site of the Year, for CA sites run by either a local authority or private company which have successful and effective day-to-day operations. Entrants will need to show how the sites have been used to increase recycling and composting and provide an enhanced service to users.
Local authorities
Also, to be recognised is the Best Local Authority Recycling Initiative (sponsored by Hadfield part of enva) for an initiative by a local authority which helps to promote greater recycling, composting, sustainability or waste management.
Other categories include Waste Management Initiative in the Retail, Commercial and Public Sector (sponsored by Helistrat); Circular Economy Success (sponsored by European Recycling Platform); Best Use of Design and Technology in a Waste Management Facility (sponsored by the Environmental Services Association); Waste Transfer and Skip Hire Business of the Year (sponsored by Turmec); Civic Amenity Site of the Year (sponsored by REPIC); the Best Community Recycling Initiative; and the Zero Waste Platinum Award (sponsored by Wastecare).
And, entrants are also being sought for the Collection Crew of the Year Award – which recognises waste operatives for the dedication and high-level service provided in either refuse collection, recycling, or both.
