Four industry experts have been confirmed as speakers for a waste crime session taking place at the upcoming Letsrecycle Live trade show in May.
The waste crime session, on day one of the conference (22 May), will see presentations from Sam Corp, head of regulation at the Environmental Services Association; Richard McIlwain, deputy chief executive, Keep Britain Tidy; Jennifer Watts, director at Watts Legal and chief executive of UROC; and, John Galvin, independent waste regulation specialist.
Taking place at the keynote theatre, the session will focus on tackling waste crime in the sector, on the back of proposals to “rid the country of waste crime” announced by Defra in its Resources and Waste Strategy, published in December 2018.
Delegates are expected to gain an insight into the government’s approach to tackling waste crime. Proposals in the strategy include better intelligence sharing, tougher penalties, more awareness of the rules around waste movements and digital records (see letsrecycle.com story).
‘Timely opportunity’
ESA’s head of regulation, Sam Corp, said: “Following on from significant proposals aimed at tackling waste crime in the Resources and Waste Strategy, this session at Letsrecycle Live provides a timely opportunity to hear more about the Government’s plans, reactions from key stakeholders and what further measures are needed to tackle a problem which is still costing the taxpayer up to £1 billion each year.”
