Charity Car team conquer mud run

Charity Car team members have taken part in an Xrunner event – a 5km mud run, interspersed with 36 “bonkers obstacles” – to raise some extra cash for their Charity Partners.

The event was in a field in Derbyshire on a cloudy and cold Saturday morning. The team said that it was “something of a relief that it wasn’t raining!

Charity Car said: “After torrential rain the day and night before, we were definitely guaranteed to get muddy! Our team of 20, including some family and friends who we’d roped in and two lucky competition winners, were ready to go, we warmed up as best we could in 9 degree temperatures and were ready to start. A few hay bales, some cargo nets to crawl under, not a bad start, then came the slightly more difficult inverted fences to climb, still, not too muddy.

The company continued: “From this point it got muddier, wetter, muddier, swimming through muddy water at one point, muddier, there was even fire, oh and mud! 36 obstacles and some bumps and bruises along the way we were at the finish line, rain just starting. Relieved and in need of a warm we grabbed our medals, congratulated each other and rushed to get changed.

“We’re proud of each other and pleased that we’ve raised some money for some of our great Charity Car Official Partners. There’s still time to donate to our fundraising page and if you fancy donating your car you can choose a charity and find out more.’

Charity Car is linked to online car buying company and car recycling network, CarTakeBack.

EMR team raises funds for youth charity

A team of employees from metal recycler, EMR, has raised more than £30,000 for OnSide Youth Zones, a charity that supports young people across the country.

During the summer, 12 EMR employees from across the business, completed MediaCityUK’s Urban Challenge. The 6K event, developed by ex-SAS celebrity TV trainer Rob Edmond, featured 25 challenges including a ninja wall, a rope swing into water, cargo net climbs before a giant water slide which catapults participants into dock 9 of Salford Quays.

Over £15,000 was raised through sponsorship alone by EMR’s ‘Team Steel’ which was match-funded by the company to raise almost £31,000.

OnSide Youth Zones provide tens of thousands of young people aged between 8 to 19-years-old (up to 25 for those with a disability) with safe and inspiring places to socialise and establish healthy relationships.

Andrew Brady, EMR UK chief operating officer said: “At EMR we put a great deal of importance on supporting the communities that are close to our sites. We wanted to help raise money for OnSide Youth Zones to support the incredible work they do on a daily basis and it’s great to know that the money raised will make a real difference to the lives of young people across the country.”

Homeless focus for Gaskells in October

Merseyside based Waste Management company Gaskells is dedicating the whole month of October to raising money for homelessness charity The Whitechapel Centre.

Gaskells

Employees at Gaskells are raising funds for the homeless this month

Gaskells has been working in partnership with the charity for the past year to raise awareness of the dangers of homeless people sleeping in bins, along with financially supporting them. With winter now on the way, when people on the streets are more at risk, the team at Gaskells said they have decided to step up their efforts, with a full four weeks of fundraising activities.

One of the biggest events is a spectacular truck tow at the Aintree Racecourse, which will see teams from Everton FC, Merseyrail, Pakawaste, Vehicle Weighing Solutions and Reconomy compete to pull a 17 tonne bin truck for half a furlong, in the fastest time.

There will be a variety of activities taking place at Gaskells head office in Bootle over the four weeks, including a special version Bake-off.. but involving pies, down to a number of the staff there being from Wigan.

Gaskells commercial director Denise Banks says “We’ve been incredibly proud to work with and support the Whitechapel Centre for the past year. Throughout October, we’re all looking to raise as much money as possible, along with awareness, and have some fun along the way. We’d like to thank everyone taking part in our truck pull, and personally, as a Wigan girl, I’m very much looking forward to sampling the pies.”

Three Peaks climb for charity at Mick George

Five from Mick George Ltd have returned from completing the famous ‘Three Peaks Challenge’ this weekend, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Nevis

With weeks of training beforehand, Ben Collett, Chris Gunkel, Garry Woodcock, Lee Cox, Anthony McCann and Joe Gossage “embraced the ultimate challenge”.

The company explained that this started off in Scotland, where the team climbed to the summit of Ben Nevis, before heading down and travelling to Scafell Pike for phase two in the Lake District. The final obstacle awaited the team in Wales, where they conquered Snowdon, all within 24 hours, and partly under the cover of darkness.

And, the company said: “Kudos to the team, who have stretched themselves both physically and mentally for this gruelling encounter, all made worthwhile by returning home to their combined donations total which surpassed £1,900!”

Jon Stump, finance director at Mick George Ltd, commented: “Last year we introduced a voting system for our Corporate Charity of the Year, encouraging staff to have their say on which charity any Company fundraising should go towards. Macmillan Cancer Support and the British Heart Foundation have been at the forefront of employees minds this year, and we’re thrilled to hear about all of the amazing challenges that have been completed as a result.”
